Important Update: Sitelinks Search Box Deprecation

Google has announced that the Sitelinks Search Box feature will be removed from search results globally starting November 21, 2024. Here’s what this means for Schema Pro users:

  1. Impact on Structured Data
    • The Sitelinks Search Box structured data will no longer be displayed in search results.
    • While you may remove this structured data from your site, it is not mandatory. Unsupported structured data does not cause errors or issues in Google Search.
  2. Rich Results Report Removal
    • The Sitelinks Search Box rich results report will be removed from Google Search Console.
    • The Rich Results Test will also stop highlighting the associated markup.
  3. Continuing Support for WebSite Schema
    • If you’re using the WebSite structured data for site names, it will continue to be supported.

Recommendations for Schema Pro Users

  • Optional Cleanup: You may remove Sitelinks Search Box structured data, but it’s not necessary.
  • Check Other Structured Data: Ensure other structured data types, such as site names, are implemented correctly.
  • Stay Updated: Monitor Google’s Search Central blog and forums for any further updates.

This change does not affect rankings or other sitelinks visual elements. For detailed information, refer to the official announcement: Farewell, Sitelinks Search Box – Google Search Central Blog.
